Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou Season 2 is an isekai fantasy anime by asread and studio MOTHER that is based on the light novel by Ryo Shirakome. In this season, the Japanese schoolboy turned world's strongest, Hajime Nagumo, and his harem of girls continue their adventures across the world of Tortus to return Myu (a dagon girl they rescued from some slavers) to her mother, and take on the challenges in the Liberator dungeons to acquire a set of ancient magics powerful enough to make their way home to Japan.
Along the way, they will make new allies, encounter friends from earlier, and cross paths with a powerful opposing force as told in volumes 5 and 6 in the light novel series. The special episode is a collection of three short bonus chapters on Hajime's party sometime between the events in the first and second season in a cute, comedy of errors narrative, which is based on the bonus chapters at the end of volume 4 and 5 in the light novel series with some variations.
As with my Quick Thoughts on Season 1, I read the light novel series and expected the anime series will have its share of cute and funny moments with fanservice, as well as the intense battles and darker moments covered in season 2. Again, this anime series did not disappoint, as many of the moments when the protagonist's harem of girls accompanying him vie for his affection are retained and brought out well. The protagonist has also turned into a more caring character, and encounter some formidable foes which require his companions' help this time, unlike the first season.
Season 2 and the special episode have a good opening video and theme song Daylight which brings out the inner turmoil experienced by one of the characters, the protagonist as the bringer of light despite his seemingly uncaring attitude, and the battle scenes well.
The good voice acting in both Japanese and English also helps to bring out the premise of a gung-ho hero with a soft spot for people he likes, and his harem of cute attractive girls with fanservice and comedy nicely.
One thing to note is that the story continues immediately after the events of season 1 with just a brief recap, so viewers who have not read the relevant volumes in the light novel series, or watched the previous season may have difficulty following the events in this season.
Whether you are a fan of the light novel series, or you are interested in watching an isekai harem anime series featuring an overpowered hero with a variety of cute, comical, epic, dark, and touching moments, Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou is an anime series that deserves its place in SinicalGeek's Favorite Isekai List.
