In comparison to when the game had its debut, it definitely has worn off. 900k players were at the start of it, now there are around 80k active left, gradually decreasing as most of them finish the game or lose interest.

At that point I wouldn't call it hype anymore.

Sure, the playerbase is high and lore video creators will have their bread for the next four years, but in a few months it's gonna be quieter in everyone's circles.

... Except in ER communities.
