Emo rap has been around for not that long, it was noted as a subgenre of rap with lyrics and sounds from emo songs mixed with rap beats etc. it had a lot of artists make music in this genre like Kid Cudi, Hollywood undead And Gym Class Heroes. Emo rap is more emotional lyrics than regular hip hop and was very popular, hip hop took over until emo rap began to get popular with artists like xxxTentacion, Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Peep
Lil peep,(real name Gustav Elijah Åhr) was a american rapper/Singer who was apart of the Emo rap revival. he grew up in Long island, NY and didnt like school, he was not liked and didnt like most of the adults there, he was very smart and was on the deans list but didnt like school, when he was 17 he left home to Los angeles under the name "lil peep". he dipped in and out of homelessness and lived in skidrow with friends, his break came when he met ghostemane and craig xen who helped him and started the collective "Schemaposse". He went on to create many songs and alot of them released after his death from collaborations.
Lil peeps music was unique, it sounded like slow rap but the emotion he put into it was real, his voice was amazing and was a factor in his fast success, lil peep liked to be open with his fans and was loved and had a Very devoted fan base, he created many songs like hellboy and Save That Shit. his music was lo fi and melodic which was soothing and real, his voice mixed so well with the beat and it created this track that would give you shivers.Sadly, in November 2017, lil peep was found dead on his tour bus near Tucson arizona, he overdosed on xanax, possibly laced with fentanyl, his devoted fanbase mourned and many payed respects as he was so young and had a great future as a music artist. Below are some songs i think you should listen to if you wish to try out his music as i think they best represent his way of rap and his love of music.
It's a shame he perished like that. Very unique talent. Not a fan of the modern trash but he was different, he was so different.
